Thank you to all who participated in BoO! on Broadway and Beyond. What a wonderful day we had, it was incredible to see so many families in costume enjoying the fun in the park, and strolling our Downtown streets seeking witches in the Witches Walk Scavenger Hunt and peeking in windows to see your fantastic pumpkin creations. Thank you to all who participated by hosting a witch or creating a pumpkin – your efforts go a long way on making downtown a destination for seasonal family fun!

As spooky season comes to a close, the first snowfall was a reminder that the Holiday season is right around the corner! Ideal for all emerging entrepreneurs, this session will cover the requirements and considerations of starting a small business in Ontario. Mark Jamieson, Coordinator of the Orangeville & Area Small Business Enterprise Centre, will discuss the key elements of a business plan and why this essential document is so important when starting or growing a business. This workshop will also answer many start-up questions and provide participants with the tools needed to begin building their own businesses.

Video Series Opportunity: First Job and Day in the Life

The Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin is looking for employers and professionals to participate in one of their two upcoming video series! The first series will feature the daily routine of in demand jobs to inspire job seekers. The second is sharing about first job experiences and what valuable lessons can be taken from the experience. This is a great opportunity to share your wisdom and pass the lesson you’ve learned along!

Employers and Professionals wanted! The Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin and partners invite you to take part in two video initiatives geared towards attracting talent. You are welcome to participate in both or pick one that suits you best.

Initiative 1, Day in Life Video: This video series will highlight the daily life of key in-demand occupations to help provide real-time and real-life insights to potential job seekers. Given that employers are noticing job seekers get hired, then tend to quit because of the lack of awareness or understanding of job duties and responsibilities, this project will provide clarity and insights into selected occupations by offering an actual visual footage of the occupations and tasks! Therefore, we need employer and industry participation into helping to volunteer your time and workplace to video the Day in the Life of Professional Video Series Project to showcase your available roles and industry!

What we need from you:

  • Reply if you are interested in this opportunity
  • Brainstorm potential occupations and roles which you think would be a good fit to showcase your company
  • Provide your availability for further discussions with project leads regarding details and potential filming dates
  • Provide any other potential employer or industries you think maybe interested

 

Initiative 2, First Jobs Social Media Campaign: We are looking for at least 20 memorable community members and established professionals to share about their first jobs experiences, skills they gained and importance of the very first jobs. Short videos will be delivered through a variety of social media channels. Our team will be with you every step of the way.

We heard from employers and educators about their concerns that youth do not always understand what skills and value a first job offers them. Series will focus on youth primarily to give a better understanding of the skills that first job taught the participants, so that youth and parents better understand the role these jobs play. Two additional streams of videos will be focusing on first jobs as newcomers and first jobs as career-shifters.

  • We provide gift cards for the first 20 participants
  • We provide “how-to” guides
  • Share about your first job and engage other community members to talk about their experiences
  • Motivate youth and job seekers to take that first job
  • Let’s create a long-lasting trend together
