Save the Date - Clean Sweep Returns on Saturday May 7th!

After a few years hiatus due to the pandemic, Clean Sweep is back! This fun, community event is a great photo-op and the perfect day to spruce up your entryway and show some Orangeville pride!  Brooms will be provided to everyone who registers in advance, please email ambassador@downtownorangeville.ca to sign up!

How does it work?

  1. Email ambassador@downtownorangeville.ca to confirm your participation by Monday, April 18th.
  2. An OBIA staff member will deliver a broom to you a few days prior to the event.
  3. On May 7th at 10am, be outside your place of business and start sweeping!
  4. A photographer will be Downtown to capture you and your staff in action, but since he cannot be everywhere at 10am, we ask that you be willing to pop out again for a few minutes to re-enact your sweeping pose a little later in the morning.
  5. Photos will be shared with local media and on our social media pages so make sure your business is dressed to impress!

This event will coincide with the Opening Day of the outdoor Orangeville Farmers’ Market, so we expect a great turn out – don’t miss it!

Statutory Holiday Closures Reminder April 15th & April 17th

In accordance with Ontario’s Retail Business Holidays Act, retail stores (with a few exceptions) are NOT permitted to open for business on Good Friday (April 15th) or Easter Sunday (April 17th).

Saturday and Easter Monday are normal business days.

While the Town's Retail Business Holiday Exemption By-law permits retail businesses to be open on most statutory holidays for the purposes of developing tourism, it does not provide an exemption for Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.  If you open on these days, you could face a provincial fine.

Businesses exempt from the Holiday Closures by-law include:

  • shops under 2,400 square feet and with three or fewer employees where the only goods available for sale on the holiday are in one or more of the following categories:
    • tobacco or articles required for the use of tobacco
    • antiques
    • handicrafts
    • books
    • nurseries
    • flower shops
    • gardening centres
    • gas stations

Reminder: My Main Street Local Business Accelerator Program Available Now!

The My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program launched a few weeks ago in the Town of Orangeville, with a full-time Main Street Ambassador offering support to new and existing small businesses in our downtown (Please note this is NOT the same role or person as our OBIA Member Ambassador, Julia!)

If you have not already done so, we encourage you to arrange a meeting with the Main Street Ambassador, Christine Hann (some of you will remember her from the Digital Main Street Program) to find out how YOUR business can benefit from the resources available through the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program.  For example, eligible businesses can receive a non-repayable funding contribution of up to $10,000 to support starting or growing their business. Contact Christine Hann at chann@orangeville.ca or 519-939-8106.

The program will run in Orangeville until February 2023. For more program details visit https://mymainstreet.ca/accelerator-program.

Matinees are Back at Theatre Orangeville

Great news from Theatre Orangeville! Matinees are back on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.   Thanks to the popularity of these shows, businesses can expect more foot traffic before and after the 2pm show, including patrons who want to have a nice lunch or dinner and shop before/after the show!    Sharing Theatre Orangeville’s promotions on social media is a great way to encourage your customers to visit you when they come Downtown to see a show!   Let’s support each other and watch each other grow!
