Call for Artists, Clean Sweep Postponed & Sidewalk Reconstruction – Have Your Say!

To all members,

The long weekend is here!   Many of us will be celebrating with “stay-cations’ this year - backyard BBQ’s, hiking the trails, enjoying the Farmers’ Market, getting out in the garden, and enjoying some great local take-out.  And while it’s not possible to relax and unwind on one of our downtown patio’s yet, those days are coming soon!    The first few weeks of the Farmers’ Market were very well attended, and we suspect that people are hungry to be out and about experiencing life again.   This can only mean good things for Downtown after the shut down.  Your customers miss you and will be heading Downtown to experience all that our businesses have to offer just as soon as they can!

Call for Artists

Our BIA Better Together Task Force has been busy planning some amazing things behind the scenes!   Next up:  A large, interactive mural on the side of the building at 114 Broadway!

The purpose of this interactive mural is to attract visitors and to offer them a unique Downtown Orangeville experience while promoting Theatre Orangeville.

In partnership with Theatre Orangeville, the Task Force has put out a Call to Artists, looking for artists to submit their original artwork for the space.  In particular, they are looking for artwork that showcases the Theatre Orangeville stage, creates awareness for Theatre Orangeville and its productions, and is interactive in nature.  The art must engage the audience by inviting them into the scene.  Successful artist submissions must be innovative in design, foster community pride, and contribute to a sense of identity for residents and businesses.

The Orangeville BIA Better Together Task Force will award the successful artist $1,500.00 for the design of their work.

Clean Sweep – Postponed

Originally scheduled for mid-May, we decided it would be best to hold off on our Clean Sweep event until most of our businesses are open again.   When the province-wide shut down is over, we will welcome customers back to our streets and into our businesses with a Clean Sweep photo op.  Date to be announced when the stay-at-home order is lifted, stay tuned!

In the meantime, we encourage everyone to keep their entranceways looking neat and tidy.   Thank you to everyone who has gone the extra mile, keeping their walkways safe, clean, and sprucing things up with flowers & sparkling windows.  Every little bit of effort helps to contribute to the overall beauty of Downtown & shows the community that we care. If you need a corn broom, we have some at the office and would be happy to provide you with one, just let us know!
