Remembrance Day Livestream, Holiday Lights Extravaganza, Starlight Shopping and more!

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great week!  There is a lot of uncertainty in the air, with the US Election still in progress, COVID numbers on the rise, and the Holiday Season just around the corner.   At the OBIA, we are focusing our efforts on promoting Downtown Orangeville as the place to dine safely and to shop for everyone on your list this year, and we have already seen many people shopping early - perhaps hoping to avoid crowds or wanting to get their gifts well in advance of any future lockdown. Still, we know that many customers are choosing to shop from home, and this is why we are working hard to get as many members as possible onto the ShopDowntownOrangeville.ca site.   We believe that an online storefront is key to reaching local customers who would prefer to shop online this Holiday season. We welcomed several new members to the ShopDowntownOrangevile.ca site this week and we hope you’ll join us too!  If ever there was a year to start an online shop, this is it!  Not to mention that it has never been easier to list products/services and sell online, and you’ll be in very good company Right now we are offering additional support including: one-on-one appointments to formulate a plan for your online shop, determining which products would be a good fit and how to present them, assistance with product photography, uploading product listings, writing descriptions and more.   Please contact Julia (ambassador@downtownorangeville.ca) for more information.

Remembrance Day

There will be no public Remembrance Day ceremony this year, due to Public Health Guidelines.   Instead, the Legion will be having a smaller invitation only ceremony on Wednesday November 11th at Alexandra Park.   Please note that Second Street will be closed from Broadway to First Avenue from 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on November 11th 2020 (please see the notice here). The Town of Orangeville will live stream the ceremony on the Town of Orangeville’s Facebook page, beginning at 10:57 a.m.  Rogers TV cable 63 will record the ceremony and it will air on Nov. 11th at 6pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10:30 p.m.

The Town of Orangeville's Holiday Lights Extravaganza Tour

Are you planning some extra special Christmas lights this year for your place of business?  If so, don’t forget to register your business address as a stop on the Town of Orangeville’s Holiday Lights Extravaganza Tour.  Your address will be marked on the map for all to see, which is great fun AND great publicity.  In fact, the whole of Downtown Orangeville will be listed as a stop on the map as we are planning some enhanced lighting displays this year, so let’s make the most of this Holiday season and spread some light and some cheer!

Starlight Shopping

The official start date for Starlight Shopping has been set for Thursday November 19th and runs until Christmas. The OBIA Better Together Task Force has arranged for live music performances on Friday evenings to create a festive atmosphere and entertain shoppers -stay tuned for more details on this AND a window decorating contest! Do you plan to be open LATE on Thursday and/or Friday nights for our Starlight Shopping promotion?  Reply to this email and let us know so that we can list you as a participating member.

Ontario Made

Do you manufacture your products right here in Ontario?   Whether you make cookies, pottery, or clothing, you may be interested in joining the Ontario Made Database - a searchable consumer database of goods made in Ontario. “Ontario Made is a celebration of Ontario Manufacturing led by Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters. Manufacturers are encouraged to register their Ontario Made products to our searchable consumer database and receive a digital Ontario Made logo as we promote the very best that this province has to offer”. If a consumer is interested in purchasing an Ontario-made product, they can visit the site, search for a product, and a list of registered companies will appear.   You can view the full list of companies here (you will see companies both big and small!) and register your own products here. It’s free to register and you will receive an Ontario Made digital logo that can be used on your products and marketing materials to help your company promote your locally made products.   Thanks everyone, have a wonderful weekend!
